Many people asked me why I chose caesarean over natural birth? If my body allow me to natural birth, why not? The problem was I suffered pre-eclampsia during my late pregnancy, hence I am no able to choose natural birth. Pre-eclampsia or preeclampsia is a medical condition characterized by high blood pressure and significant amounts of protein in the urine of a pregnant woman. If left untreated, it can develop into eclampsia, the life-threatening occurrence of seizures during pregnancy. There are many different causes for the condition. It appears likely that there are substances from the placenta that can cause endothelial dysfunction in the maternal blood vessels of susceptible women. While blood pressure elevation is the most visible sign of the disease, it involves generalized damage to the maternal endothelium, kidneys, and liver, with the release of vasoconstrictive factors being a consequence of the original damage. Pre-eclampsia may develop from 20 weeks' gestation (it is considered early onset before 32 weeks, which is associated with an increased morbidity). Its progress differs among patients; most cases are diagnosed before labor typically would begin. Pre-eclampsia may also occur up to six weeks after delivery. Apart from Caesarean section and induction of labor (and therefore delivery of the placenta), there is no known cure. It is the most common of the dangerous pregnancy complications; it may affect both the mother and fetus. Some said if you have never gone through the process of natural birth, you will never know the experience of giving birth....Hello! what bulls***... Every mother to be have to go through 9 months of pregnancy, childbirth, and nature their offspring after that. Disadvantage of C-sect. Compared to natural birth, the recovering period is much longer. For natural birth, you only need 1 day to stay in a hospital and 1-2 weeks for full recovery as for C-sect, you needs at least 3 days, and 1-2 months for full recovery (also depends on the individual). According to some women even my mum who have gone through a natural birth, they said that their private parts do not look the same after a natural birth. In fact, they said it will never be exactly the same. Even if you have only 1 sleeping partner for the rest of your life and you wouldn’t care? Maybe. I wouldn't know. And the scar on lower stomach after C-section? My scar looks fine and not as bad as I thought it would be. Pain threshold Level I had an epidural and was awake during the process. I was semi-conscious. As I was too kan cheong, the anesthesia doc had to give me a dose of drowsiness to allow me to relax & sleep but I could still heard whatever nonsense my gynae was having with the anesthesia doc. You can opt to sleep throughout the whole process but you won’t be the first to see your baby and your hubby is not allowed in the operating theatre, some note for you to take if you are considering it. Some natural birth mothers took an epidural too because the pain is not tolerable. My salute to those who endure thru it. However, the pain came the next day. I did not eat much and neither move at all except to breastfeed my girl, the nurses were real helpful in a way or another. The worst was when I coughed or sneezed, my wound hurt like mad!. Needless to say, even for laugh. I couldn’t describe how painful it was. But a good thing is, painkiller helps a lot. When it was the D day, I told myself that, my gynae will take care of me and choose what is best for my baby and myself. I will let my gynae handle it. At the end of the day, the decision is your choice to choose. |
